Sep 30 - Shopmobility Transferred To Casemates Tourist Office

Users of the Shopmobility facility will be pleased to know that it has been transferred from the Care Agency premises at the ICC to the Gibraltar Tourist Board as from tomorrow (October 1st 2013).

Relocation to the tourist information office at Casemates means the mobility scooter rental service will become available during weekends and public holidays from now on.

The Contact telephone number remains the same 20079898 and Shopmobility will continue to be free of charge for residents.

The service will now offer the following opening times:

Monday – Friday 0900-1730

Saturday – 1000-1500

Sunday – 1000-1300

Public Holidays – 1000-1400

Minister for Tourism, Neil Costa, welcomed the improvement to the service noting that it reflected his Ministry’s sensitivity to social and community issues.

Mr Costa said: “Shopmobility users will now have extra access to the facilities available on weekends and public holidays which did not exist until now. We will continue to work tirelessly to better conditions for persons with mobility problems and other vulnerable groups in Gibraltar, as a pivotal part of this Government’s social policy aims.”

Minister with responsibility for people with disabilities and the elderly, the Hon Samantha Sacramento said the change of location does not affect the service other than that it will be “better due to the new opening hours.”

She said: “I am delighted that as a result of the transfer of the Shopmobility facility from the Care Agency to the Gibraltar Tourist Board there will be an increase in available services to people with mobility issues. This is another example of this Government’s commitment to assist our elderly members of our community and those with mobility problems”.
