Oct 04 - Regiment Makes Presentation on Last Visit by Governor Sir Adrian Johns

gov Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Ivor Lopez presented The Governor and Commander-in-Chief with a Ceremonial Pith Helmet during his final official visit to the Regiment last night.

The Governor took the opportunity to visit the whole battalion before the Regiment’s upcoming deployment to Exercise Jebel Sahara. The visit kicked off started with a visit to HQ Company in Devils Tower Camp, before moving onto Buffadero Training Camp where he witnessed I and B Company training and watched the Band and Corps of Drums while they rehearsed.

As the CO addressed the Battalion he thanked His Excellency for taking time out of his busy schedule and spoke about recent Regimental achievements noting that they were only possible due to the deep personal interest that the Governor takes in his soldiers including attending recent reviews for Terms and Conditions of Service and in his role as the Patron of the RG Benevolent Fund.

Lt Col Lopez noted, ‘the Governor has been an engaging and supportive Commander-in- Chief throughout his tenure and as a small token of our appreciation we would like to present him with a Ceremonial Pith Helmet.

The Governor was delighted with the presentation and added, ‘for me it has been a highlight of my time here in Gibraltar to be your Commander-in-Chief. It really has been an honour and a privilege to be in Full Command of the Regiment.’
