Oct 08 - Unions Pass Frontier Complaints on to European Employment Commission

unite the union Unite the Union, the Workers Commission (CCOO) and Union General de Trabajadores (U.G.T.) are considering an offer made by Izquierda Unida's Euro MP, Willy Meyer, to pass on their concerns over the effects of Frontier restrictions on ordinary working class citizens, to the European Employment Commission.

Union Officials from both sides of the border handed Mr. Meyer their manifesto detailing their position on the negative repercussions the conflict has had upon workers.

For his part, IU's Euro MP, expressed his agreement with the Trade Unions' analysis and highlighted the need to take these issues to the European Parliament and the Employment Commission in particular.

A Unite spokesperson commented on the matter, adding, ‘the Union Officials have agreed that this is a good opportunity for the political representatives in the European Parliament to get to know the concerns of workers in the area first hand and consequently adopt measures to resolve the situation, as well as putting forward actions that can lead to normalizing the conditions that cross border workers and ordinary citizens are subjected to.

UNITE, CCOO and UGT have expressed their gratitude to Izquierda Unida's representative, while highlighting that all parties involved share the same views on the issues.

The Unions feel that it is of fundamental importance for politicians to be aware of the human factor that is so often distorted by other aspects of this conflict.’
