Nov 08 - Comprehensive Schools Participate in Shakespeare Drama Workshops
Two drama practitioners from the famous Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre have this week visited Gibraltar to carry out workshops with students from both Bayside and Westside Schools. Sponsored by the Kusuma Trust. The visit took place from the 4th to the 8th of November and saw the students explore issues of Shakespearean stagecraft and genre, while also working on specific plays.
In order to make the most of the occasion, GCSE and A-Level students worked in a mixed context, bringing boys and girls together to develop their skills in drama.
In addition to the school workshops, the practitioners also held after-school sessions with members of Bayside & Westside Drama Group, and with local teachers. The aim of the project was for the participants to develop a greater appreciation of Shakespeare and early modern theatre in a manner that will aid them in their relevant exams and will foster a long-term enthusiasm for the Bard’s work.
