Mar 07 - Buckingham Palace Thanks Picardo for Local Queen Portrait
Commissioned by the Gibraltar Government to produce a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, to be given to the Queen, local art teacher Chris-Anne Alcantara this afternoon received a copy of a thank you letter from the Queen’s Office that was sent to the Chief Minister.
The inspiration for the portrait came from a piece Chris-Anne developed of her Grandfather that was later displayed in her first solo exhibition. The Queen’s portrait used the same technique made up of a combination of collage, pencil and Indian ink. Chris-Anne noted that the background of the piece is an amalgamation of images ranging from photos of Her Majesty’s visits to Gibraltar, to other royal appointments, including Her Majesty’s coronation. The painting is a larger than life piece that took approximately a month to complete. Chris-Anne insisted that the images surrounding the Queen were chosen because their conveyance of Gibraltar’s strong ties with Britain.
The Deputy Private Secretary to the Queen, Edward Young sent a letter of thanks to the Chief Minister for the gift of the portrait.
