Oct 24 - New Arrangements For Issuing Gibraltar Variant British Passports
Following a decision in 2010 by Her Majesty’s Passport Office in UK, the Gibraltar passport service will move to centralisation of passport personalisation in mainland UK in early 2015.
According to HMPO this move is aimed at increasing security and creating new efficiencies and will ensure that applicants can receive a new generation British passport which incorporates improved security features.
Whilst the Gibraltar-variant British passport will be printed in a secure facility in the UK from early 2015, HMGOG has been able to negotiate that Gibraltar will:
maintain its status as an issuing authority independent of HMPO;
continue to accept and process passport applications and maintain the 10 day turnaround time as usual; and
retain the ability to issue locally printed passports in emergency situations to persons who reside or work in Gibraltar.
The fees for Gibraltar variant passports will not change for the foreseeable future and will remain at:
£42.00 for adults;
£25.00 for children ;
£69.50 (24hr - locally printed emergency service adults);
£52.50 (24hr - locally printed emergency service children); and
No charge (persons over 65 years of age)
Current Gibraltar variant British passports will continue to be valid until they expire.
