Oct 30 - Critical Spectator Article Calls for Return of Royal Calpe Hunt to Mend Cross Border Relations
An article penned in weekly Conservative magazine ‘The Spectator’ this week follows a former institution that once bound together the Spanish and Gibraltar, namely the Royal Calpe Hunt. The magazine noted that the hunt proved ‘an outstanding example of the friendly cooperation between Gibraltar and Spain which sadly no longer exists’.
The piece discusses bad quality of food, nightlife and beaches in Gibraltar, claiming there a few interesting legacies of three centuries of British occupation, including the Trafalgar cemetery, the Convent (although its view is ‘spoilt by the Angry Friar pub’), King’s Chapel, the Garrison Library and the Anglican Cathedral.
The report gives brief insight into the history of the places mentioned, before noting that if the Royal Calpe Hunt could be revived, perhaps cross-border relation would be restored.
