Nov 07 - GPA Granted Observer Status By EuroCOP

The Gibraltar Police Association (GPA) has received formal confirmation from EuroCOP (The European Confederation of Police) that the EuroCOP Committee on 28/29 October agreed to grant the Gibraltar Police Association an Observer Status in the European Confederation of Police. This decision took effect from the 1 November.

The GPA has successfully completed the first stage of the application with over 25 European Police members voting in favour of its inclusion in the Confederation. Among those voting in favour were Spanish Police Associations of UFPOL (Union Federal de Policias), Union de Guardia Civiles and AUGC (La Asociacion Unificada de Guardia Civiles)

As Observers, the Gibraltar Police Association will be entitled to services of the organisation as well as participation in the meetings of the organisation’s bodies. The Association has been informed that it will be invited to attend the next meeting of the EuroCOP Committee that will take place in Torremolinos, Spain at the beginning of March 2015.

The Gibraltar Police Association will be invited to apply for full membership of EuroCOP at their following EuroCOP Committee meeting to be held in Berlin in November 2015.

This is a major achievement for the Association, the Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar in general, placing the Gibraltar Police Association in a recognised and level playing field with other Police Federations in Europe.

The GPA would like to this opportunity to thank Mrs Anna Nellberg Dennis, the President of the European Confederation for her full support and assistance throughout.
