Jan 28 - Gibraltar Bunkering “Significantly Reduced” – Spanish Press Reports
28 January 2014
According to reports in the Spanish press, there has been a “significant reduction” in bunkering operations in Gibraltar during the last two years.
The press reports cite formal complaints, competition from other providers in the area and a drop in demand as the reasons behind the industry’s decline. According to Spanish sources, in the past two years, annual bunkering fuel sales have dropped from 5 million to 3.7 million tons.
Spanish sources also quote a spokesperson from Gibraltar’s bunkering industry who claims that the drop in operations is largely due to fierce competition from the Vopak Terminal across the Bay in Algeciras.
YGTV has contacted the relevant Government department for a statement on these reports.
