Shakira’s 183 days of Tax Residence

What the pop star can teach Gibraltar about our Tax Treaty

By Ovrnite.app – the Tax Residency App

Shakira found out the hard way that it’s not just #WheneverWherever when it comes to tax residency...

Even for the rich and famous, spending more than 183 days per year in a particular country can come with some nasty consequences

Although #HipsDontLie, facts don’t lie either…

The Spanish tax authorities assert that Shakira was a tax resident in Spain between 2012 and 2014. #Objection - Shakira’s legal team has argued that she did not stay in Spain for long enough between 2012 and 2014 to attract the provisions of Spanish tax laws, and that she only officially resided in Spain in 2015. #Clandestino

#sitevas - To prove that Shakira spent more than 183 days in Spain, the legal requirement that makes her a Spanish tax resident, the prosecution relied on evidence which recorded her visits to hairdressers, beauty salons, the medical clinic she visited while she was pregnant, and a recording studio she rented in Barcelona. - #loca !

In August, Shakira rejected a settlement deal offered by Spanish prosecutors, and instead opted to go to trial - #don’tbother !

Will she turn out to be a #BeautifulLiar or will she be left feeling #Rabiosa? We’ll find out shortly, as the trial is set to begin in the coming weeks.

Moral of the story? You #CantRememberToForgetYou(r) tax residency!
