SSAFA Gibraltar Celebrates Armed Forces Week with Stories of Support and Solidarity

SSAFA Gibraltar, the local arm of the UK’s Armed Forces charity, is marking Armed Forces Week by sharing stories of how it supports serving personnel and their families stationed on the Rock.
This year also marks SSAFA’s 140th anniversary, a milestone that reflects the charity’s long-standing commitment to being there for the military community in times of need.
From crisis response and mental health support to early years programmes and inclusive community activities, SSAFA Gibraltar plays a vital role in ensuring that no member of the military community feels alone or unsupported.
Throughout the week, SSAFA Gibraltar has been posting daily highlights on its Facebook page, showcasing the breadth of support it offers, ranging from funding counselling and nursery places, to emergency assistance for families facing medical crises or relationship breakdowns.
“We’re proud to stand beside those who serve and the families who serve with them,” said Alan Jones, Chair of SSAFA Gibraltar. “Armed Forces Week is not just about recognition, but about action. Our volunteers and supporters make a real difference, every single day.”
SSAFA Gibraltar's services are delivered entirely by volunteers, who respond with compassion, discretion, and speed. In the past year, the team has:
- Supported emergency relocation for a spouses following a domestic crisis
- Funded counselling for service personnel facing emotional and operational stress
- Delivered inclusive summer and weekly activities like Moo Music, stay and play sessions, theatre workshops, and sports
- Helped cover essential costs for families coping with illness and transition.
The Armed Forces Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 29 June, departing from Casemates at 10:00 am and marching to The Convent, where members of the public are invited to show their appreciation for the men and women who serve.
