Oct 28 - Deloitte Gibraltar Raises £6250 For Gibraltar Alzheimer's And Dementia Society

The Gibraltar Alzheimer's and Dementia Society received £6,250 from a 12-hour spinathon organised by local accounting firm Deloitte.

Deloitte organised the event last Saturday to help raise awareness and raise money for the charity. Staff kept four bikes going for a total of 12 hours from 9am to 9pm. A special feature of the event was the corporate challenge which pitted local companies against each other cycling for an hour each in an attempt to cover the most distance. Another cycle was available for members of the public who could join the fun by cycling for 15 minute slots.

A spokesperson for Deloitte said: "Almost all Deloitte staff participated, showing great team spirt and raising a total of £6,000.  A great deal of effort was put into the organisation of this event principally by Deloitte’s Corporate Social Responsibility committee leading to an extremely successful day. Not even the weather could dampen the spirits of participants. There were also bouncy castles, face painting and lazer-tag available for the youngsters."

The corporate element to the event was a well-supported and entertaining challenge, where some teams took it in a fun manner and others were extremely competitive. The winners for the challenge were; Bassadone Group (team Alpha) on bike 1 and Eastgate Limited on bike 2 both achieving some amazing average speeds of over 40km/h during their respective hours. Very close on their heels with similar high average speeds were the teams from TSN, Nature Group, Ministry of Employment and BFA.

The Deloitte team would like to give a special thanks to the organisations who helped us with logistics, entertainment and equipment, and would like to extend its gratitude to all participants who made this day a huge success, and allowed the firm to raise funds for such a worthy cause.
