Apr 15 - Local Runner Gary Evans In 28th Position In Marathon De Sables
Local scaffolder Gary Evans has just one day left to complete the Marathon de Sables, finishing off the fifth stage of the race in 28th position.
Tomorrow, Gary will have to run another 21km to finish off the charity stage in what is called the world’s toughest race, after having competed with 1,200 other runners from across the world.
During his time in the Sahara Desert, Gary will have covered more than 250km in temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius.
Gary, 34, decided to run the Marathon de Sables in the Sahara Desert in Morocco to raise money for Gibraltar’s Cancer Relief Centre and Gibraltar Alzheimer and Dementia Society in memory of his grandmother Maggie Evans who passed away from Alzheimer’s and his mother’s partner Geoff Miller who passed away from cancer.
