Mar 13 - Childline To Host Annual Blue Week

Childline Gibraltar will hold its annual “Blue Week” from the 19th to the 23rd March to raise awareness and to raise funds for the charity.

There will be key activities organised over the four days including “Blue Day” on Friday 23rd March when local school children and companies will be asked to wear blue and to donate £1 to Childline. In addition, a “Blue Week Quiz” will be held on Thursday the 22nd.

This year Childline will repeat the hugely successful #8008challenge in which the community will be asked to help to raise awareness about the freephone Helpline number, “8008” and by completing the challenge. This can be done by showing those numbers in a creative/imaginative/financial way and then by sharing it on social media with the hashtag #8008challenge.

As part of this important annual event, a team from Childline will be available upon request to visit local companies to explain more about Childline’s work and how they can be involved in Blue Week.

Now in its 11th year of operation, Childline provides much needed services to the children and young people of Gibraltar. These services include:

- A free telephone Helpline Service, open every day of the year between the hours of 5-9pm. If anyone is worried about a child they should call Freephone 8008 to speak confidentially to one of Childline’s highly trained volunteers.

- ‘Live Chat’

- A service for Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse in which the main aim is to enable and empower adult victims of childhood abuse to access the support they need in order to make their own personal journey of recovery and heal their emotional wounds.

- An Appropriate Adult Service which is available 24 hours a day (Childline volunteers work closely with the RGP providing support and assistance to juveniles who have been detained by the police and who do not have an adult who can attend on their behalf).

- An Educational and Awareness Programme in which volunteers and managers work closely with schools and other youth and community groups to promote better understanding about self-care and personal needs.

- A Corporate Social Responsibility programme which taps into various corporates’ sense of responsibility to see what they can contribute and to help Childline to fulfil its mission.

Childline (Gibraltar)’s services are largely funded through private and corporate donations and the mission is simple: to end cruelty to children in Gibraltar.
