Aug 18 - Clock To Rock Cyclists Hand Nearly £8,000 To Cancer Relief
Clock To Rock cyclists Mark ‘Coop’ Cooper, Simon Morgan and Graham Dyer handed over a cheque worth £7804 to Cancer Relief yesterday.
The money was raised from months of fundraising and various activities, including cycling from Big Ben in London to Gibraltar.
Prison officer Mark set an initial fundraising target of £5,000. He said: “I went past my original target, and just carried on. Cancer Relief is a charity close to my heart, and it is a significant charity for us at work in the prison, so I wanted to do something to help them out.
“I can’t stress how thankful I am for the support I’ve received from everyone, including my colleagues and family.
“The welcome we received when we arrived back in Gibraltar was just mind-blowing.”
Other fundraising activities include a karaoke night, an 80s disco and the 5- laps Med Steps challenge, which is set to become and annual event.
Mark took the opportunity to thank his sponsors at La Parilla last night, and was surprised with a chocolate cake from The Muscle Bakery.
Speaking on the night, Grainne McKenna, Cancer Relief’s Centre Nurse Manager, said: “I can’t thank you guys enough for the fantastic support for an amazing cause.
“You guys have really raised the profile of the charity, and even though the money is amazing, but the awareness you have generates for Cancer Relief has been even better.”
