Nov 19 - Man Found Guilty Of Ocean Village Robbery
A jury of nine returned a guilty verdict for a thief who stole a mobile phone and robbed a silver chain from a 15-year-old boy.
Brahim Douah Orram, a Spanish national, was found guilty of one count of theft and one count of robbery, and was remanded in custody after his trial came to an end at the Supreme Court today.
The incident dates back to February of this year, when Orram stole an iPhone 6 from the teenager outside Bianca’s restaurant in Ocean Village. When confronted, he pushed the boy to the floor, kicked him and yanked the silver chain from his neck.
Orram said he was in Spain during the incident, and denied all charges, however CCTV footage shown in the court showed someone who matched Orram’s description making his way down Main Street, through Casemates Square and into Ocean Village, and then crossing the frontier into Spain shortly after the incident took place.
Presiding over the case, Puisne Judge Karen Prescott said Orram was facing a very serious charge of robbery. She added: “I am remanding you in custody given the nature of the offences. You are facing a very long custodial sentence.“
Orram is due to appear again at the Supreme Court on 14th December.
Orram’s counsel Darren Martinez and Phillip Dumas have requested a pre-sentence report. Johann Fernandez appeared for the Crown.
