Apr 06 - Association of Retired Police Officers Hosts AGM

The Association of Retired Police Officers (ARPO) held their Annual General Meeting at the IPA club on Monday evening. The meeting was well attended despite the inclement weather.

Chairman Henry Sacramento highlighted the numerous social functions that had been organised during the previous year, including ARPO’s participation at the Freedom of the City celebrations that culminated with a parade on the 26th September 2015, where retired officers marched along Main Street together with their serving RGP counterparts.

The RGP welfare officer, who acts as liaison between the RGP and ARPO together with the Acting Commissioner of Police (Chief Superintendent Richard Mifsud) were invited to the AGM. Mr Henry Bautista and Ms Anna Jones from the Gibraltar Police Federation addressed the AGM, explaining their respective roles in this recently constituted representative body.

ARPO’s existing committee was re-elected, with new committee members Manolo Martinez and John De La Rosa replacing two former committee members who had stood down.

Both the ARPO chairman and Vice Chairman Jimmy Ignacio, who according to the ARPO constitution are required to serve for a period of three years, are half way through their tenure. Both expressed their satisfaction that the association was effectively achieving its purpose of uniting retired officers and families through social functions, and were enthusiastic about the year ahead.
