Drink Driver Banned for Three Years

A local woman who drove her car up Main Street whilst more than twice the drink drive limit has been disqualified from driving for three years.
Shyanne Abudarham, 38, of Ocean Village, was also fined £180 after pleading guilty to a drink driving offence at the Magistrates’ Court today.
The court heard that just before 4pm on Sunday 17 September 2023, a member of the public saw a Volkswagen Golf being driven erratically in the area of Schomberg. It collided with a parked motorcycle and then left the area.
Minutes later, the same vehicle was spotted by an off duty Gibraltar Defence Police officer on Main Street close to John Mackintosh Hall. Abudarham was screaming and blasting the horn continuously. Several members of the public approached the car and attempted to stop her from driving the vehicle as she appeared to be intoxicated.
She drove off towards the Angry Friar pub, where she stopped the car close to the seating area outside Number 6 and then continued to shout, scream and blast the vehicle’s horn continuously.
RGP offices caught up with the vehicle whilst it was parked outside the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Cathedral Square. Abudarham was in the driver’s seat. On speaking to officers, her speech was slurred and she stated that she was under the influence of alcohol.
This was then confirmed on a road side breath test which gave a reading of 99ug. The legal limit is 35ug. She was then arrested on suspicion of Driving when Under the Influence of Drink.
If anyone has concerns about a person drink or drug driving, they can call the RGP in confidence on 200 72500 or 999 in emergencies.
