Royal Gibraltar Regiment Holds Second Insight Weekend

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment held their second Insight Weekend between 15th and 17th May, with 44 participants taking part in the programme.
A statement from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment follows below:
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) hosted its second Insight Weekend from Friday 15th May to Sunday 17th May 2026, with activities held across Devil’s Tower Camp (DTC) and Buffadero Training Centre (BTC). A total of 44 participants attended the event, which was designed to provide potential candidates with an authentic experience of military and Regimental life, while encouraging future recruitment into the Regiment.
The weekend began on Friday evening and concluded after a series of activity-packed days during which participants engaged in many aspects of soldiering and life within the Regiment. Attendees stayed overnight at Devil’s Tower Camp to fully experience living and dining as a regular soldier.
Throughout the weekend, participants took part in a wide range of military-themed activities and training sessions. These included physical training designed to introduce military fitness standards and foster teamwork, as well as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) lessons that
offered insight into one of the Regiment’s specialist capabilities. Small team, “Section,” offensive exercises gave attendees practical experience in tactical movement, communication, and fieldcraft. This was followed by a paintballing exercise and room clearance drills, which simulated operational teamwork and decision-making under pressure. Observation, camouflage, and concealment lessons introduced key soldiering skills and situational awareness. Drill instruction provided a practical introduction to military discipline and daily routine. Night vision demonstrations and a night stalk exercise highlighted the Regiment’s operational capability in low-light conditions. Additionally, ration pack tasting sessions gave participants an understanding of field living and operational sustainment.
The weekend concluded with a closing address and the presentation of certificates and Commanding Officer’s Coins, recognising the enthusiasm and effort of all those who took part. The Insight Weekend offered participants a genuine taste of military life and showcased the camaraderie, professionalism, and opportunities available within the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. It also helped develop important personal skills such as leadership, confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
Recruitment Lead, Colour Sergeant Craig Payne, said: “The Insight Weekend is an excellent opportunity for people to experience the realities of military life within the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. Throughout the weekend, participants challenged themselves physically and mentally, while developing teamwork and confidence. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm, commitment, and positive attitude displayed by everyone who attended.”
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment plans to continue hosting Insight Weekends in the future as part of its ongoing recruitment and community engagement programme.
