Clarification of Transitional Beach Arrangements for Accessibility Services

Clarification of Transitional Beach Arrangements for Accessibility Services

The Government has issued the following clarification on beach arrangements for accessibility services:

"As previously announced, this year’s Bathing Season commenced earlier than usual with both lifeguard and beach attendants being operational. However, during the period commencing the 23rd May up to the 12th June, lifeguards and beach attendants are operating transitional arrangements with standard operations scheduled to commence as from the 13th June. This is an improvement from previous years when such transitional arrangements have only been provided on weekends.

"Moreover, the interim arrangement is necessary because a significant number of operatives are students who remain in full-time education. Despite best endeavours, it has not been possible to identify lifeguards and beach attendants that are able to work a full day.

"By way of further clarification, the following transitional arrangements for accessibility services are therefore currently in place with regards operative cover.

Period leading up to the 12th June – Monday to Friday

• Catalan Bay - 1600hrs to 1930hrs

• Eastern Beach and Western Beach- 1600hrs to 2000hrs

• Camp Bay - 1600hrs to 2030hrs

• GSLA Bathing Pavilion - 1600hrs to 2000hrs

• Europa Pool - 1600hrs to 2000hrs

• Saturday & Sunday

• Catalan Bay – 1030hrs to 1930hrs

• Eastern Beach and Western Beach- 1100hrs – 2000hrs

• Camp Bay – 11:30hrs to 2030hrs (10:00hrs when pools are operational).

• GSLA Bathing Pavilion - 1000hrs to 2000hrs

• Europa Pool - 1000hrs to 2000hrs

"Beaches where accessibility services are not officially offered are Sandy Bay and Little Bay although the latter (Little Bay) does benefit from beach attendant and carer services specifically.

"The Government fully understands and apologises to the community for any inconvenience or confusion caused. It accepts that members of the public, particularly families, senior citizens and persons who rely on accessibility support, need clear and accurate information in order to better plan their visits to Gibraltar’s beaches, bathing pavilions and pools.

"The published information in the Beaches & Pools Accessibility information booklet will therefore be updated to reflect transitional arrangements more clearly until standard operations are scheduled to commence on the 13th June."
