Phone Scam Warning

Detectives from the Royal Gibraltar Police’s Economic Crime Unit are warning the public to be on guard against a recent phone scam.
Fraudsters are impersonating bank employees, claiming to be from institutions like NatWest or Gibraltar International Bank, to trick victims into giving them access to their accounts. The scammers' main tactic is to create a sense of urgency, referencing fake suspicious transactions. They then pressure customers to download remote-access software like 'AnyDesk', which gives them full control over the victim's device and bank accounts.
The RGP advises the public to follow these essential safety measures:
- Hang up immediately on suspicious calls.
- Do not share personal or account details over the phone. Banks will never ask
for this information. - Call your bank directly using an official number you find yourself, not one given
by the caller. - Never download software, click links or follow instructions at the request of an
unverified caller. - Be wary of high-pressure tactics used to create panic.
Anyone who thinks they may have fallen victim to the scam should contact their bank immediately and then contact the RGP on 200 72500 or report it online at www.police.gi/report/crime.
