June 13 - Drug Convictions By HM Customs
In two separate incidents, HM Customs successfully prosecuted two men for possession and importation of class B drugs.
Juan Manuel Ordonez Sanchez, a 33 year old resident of La Linea, was arrested on May 22nd and charged with possession and importation of 18g of cannabis resin and 0.4g of herbal cannabis across the land frontier. After failing to appear before the magistrate, he was arrested on the strength of a court warrant at the land frontier on June 8th.Ordonez received a £300 penalty for the offences.
In an unrelated matter, 27 year old Paul Martin, resident in Gibraltar, received a £1000 sentence after a search of his apartment by officers of HM Customs resulted in a find of 183g of cannabis resin and 378g of herbal cannabis. Martin had been stopped and arrested by HM Customs at the Parcel Post stores on October 3rd 2012 over an alleged importation of drugs. His dwelling was subsequently searched and the sentence imposed reflected his possession of the class B drug.
