Oct 23 - RGP Constable Hosts National Association of Well-Being Advisors Workshop
On the 17 October 2013 the RGP’s Police Constable Henry Sacramento led the National Association of Police Well-Being Advisors workshop. The workshop was held in Oxford, in the United Kingdom and is the second workshop organised by NAPWA since PC Sacramento was re elected as chairperson of the association.
Holding an annual training day was an undertaking given by PC Sacramento prior to his election as chairperson. This year’s training day was on stress in the emergency services. The workshop was delivered by Dr Noreen Tehrani and proved to be very useful in learning techniques on how to identify stress and how to deal with employees suffering from stress. This was not focused solely on clients but also on the welfare advisors, who are often themselves susceptible to stress. Stress prevention also featured strongly in the workshop.
In his opening address PC Sacramento invited everyone to come and visit the Rock of Gibraltar and experience first hand the wealth of history and the hospitality of the Gibraltarians, with the RGP boasting of its position as the oldest British Police service in the Commonwealth, outside the United Kingdom and the second oldest after the Metropolitan Police.
Attendees from a number of United Kingdom police services participated in the workshop including Hampshire, South Wales, the Metropolitan Police, Cambridgeshire, South Yorkshire, Dorset, Greater Manchester Police and of course the Royal Gibraltar Police. Also attending from Gibraltar were Mr Alfred Rovegno the City Fire Brigade welfare officer, Mrs Maria Elena Macias HMGoG’s Human Resources welfare officer and Mr Alex McDonald from HM Customs Gibraltar.
Attendance certificates were presented at the close of what proved to be a very interesting and informative day. NAPWA now look forward to planning their AGM and workshop in May 2014.
The event was sponsored by Grant Thornton.
