Oct 29 - Five Customs Arrests for Tobacco and Drug Smuggling

customsIn three separate incidents, Customs Officers recently arrested five men in relation to drug and smuggling offences. The first instance saw 23-year-old La Linea resident Sebastian Gil Seliva arrested for the possession of 1.1 gram of Cocaine, which was found as he walked through the land frontier. He will appear in the Magistrates’ Court charged with the importation and possession of a controlled drug.

Another incident saw a 32-year-old local man and a 24 year old Spanish national arrested in the area of Mons Calpe Road for obstructing Customs Officers. A search of the area resulted in the detection of 100,000 cigarettes. At the time officers also intercepted a small Rigid-hulled Inflatable boat, near the shoreline. The cigarettes and vessel were seized and the men are set to face the Magistrates Court on November 23rd.

At Eastern beach on Thursday evening, two men were challenged by Customs officers as they approached the frontier fence carrying holdalls. The men attempted to evade arrest and were pursued and arrested by Customs. The bags were found to contain 12,000 cigarettes. Both men, Spanish nationals resident in La Linea, have been bailed to surrender on November 20th.
