Feb 28 - Montovio Found Not Guilty on 6 Indecent Assault Charges

courtFollowing much deliberation, the jury for the Mark Montovio trial this afternoon came to a majority verdict of not guilty against the six charges of indecent assault. 

The complainant and main witness in the trial was a 28-year-old man who used to attend private lessons together with other students in Montovio’s home in order to help him with his dyslexia. The allegations dated back to a period spanning several months in 1995-1996 when the victim was 10 years old.

Montovio was initially charged with four counts of indecent conduct and two counts of indecent assault. During the trial the counts were changed to six of indecent assault. Montovio had maintained his innocence throughout the trial and was represented by John Charles Rees QC and Ray Pilley. Ricky Rhoda QC and Robert Fischel QC appeared for the Crown assisted by James Lennane.
