Jul 06 – Brothers On Trial For “Berserk” Bar Brawl
The trial of two brothers accused of causing a “berserk” bar fight began at the Supreme Court this morning.
Damian Sanchez is charged with causing an affray and resisting police, and his younger brother Jessie Sanchez is charged with causing an affray, two counts of actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm with intent, one count of resisting police and four counts of assaulting a police officer.
The case dates back to an incident which occurred in October 2013, when the proprietor of The Quarterdeck Tavern asked the defendants to stop playing at the fruit machines as it was nearly closing time, which resulted in a fight breaking out where one man allegedly sustained a fractured skull from having a bar stool thrown at his head.
The brothers deny all charges against them.
Chris Miles appeared for the defendants, and Ricky Rhoda QC and Kerrin Drago appeared for the Crown.
The trial is expected to continue until the end of the week.
