Oct 10 - Ethan Conquers Leeds with Mint Club Residency
Having now conquered the progressively growing house music scene on the Rock, Cliché founder and resident DJ, Ethan Marin has taken up a spot as one of infamous House hotspot, Mint Club Leeds’, resident mixers. Playing to the Thursday night crowd, with the likes of the very well established DJ Sneak, Josh Butler, Huxley and Maxxi Soundsystem.
Ethan’s set evokes hazy memories of Barcelona based dance label Suara’s Ibiza residency at BoOom this summer, with heavy techno undertones. His hour on the decks exposes Mint clubbers to such tracks as the recently released Jamie Jones remix of Filsonik’s Dogfish, and his own original track which is fast catching on as his signature tune, ‘Falta De Comunicacion’.
Expressing his excitement three weeks into the residency Ethan said, ‘it’s a nice little surprise after being away from Leeds for the summer months.’ It has come about following over four years of developing relations with promoters, DJs and club management, along with regular appearances on the other side of the DJ booth as an avid fan of the club and its distinct air, attracting some of the biggest names in house and techno.
‘Mint club won small club of the year voted by DJMag in 2012, the staff and everyone involved with it are very dedicated and know what they are doing, and that’s what makes it a very special place; the atmosphere and vibe, even the bouncers are sound,’ Ethan tells us.
When quizzed on how he would explain his success to other budding DJs, both on the Rock and elsewhere Ethan gives sound advice, urging others to ‘get stuck deep into it and keep going. ‘It’s not going to happen over night, networking meeting people is key, keeping good relationships with contacts.’ He also suggested posting tracks online and sharing them on social networks.
Ethan’s passion predominantly lies with his independent record label ‘Cliché’ which is fast becoming entrenched in the Leeds underground movement. The label is hosting its first Leeds based event on November 12th at Wire, with ‘Hot Creations’ newcomer Jey Kurmis, and Paul Kaminski of notorious party throwers, mono_cult.
The near future looks vividly bright for Ethan, with a host of other dates lined up for other parties around Leeds including a stint playing with the UK’s longest established and possibly most revered underground night club ‘Back to Basics’. The club nights will kick off on the 18th October with Ralph Lawson, Dave Beer, Denney and Tristan Da Cunha. Basics prides itself on booking the most current and up and coming names.
