Sep 24 – Government Says GSD’s Criticisms Are “Absurd”
The Government has said that the suggestion by the GSD that they somehow prioritised Alzheimer and Dementia patients is “absurd.”
A statement continued: “In the first place, it took them nearly sixteen years in office to progress works on a facility for such patients. They did so without consulting the professionals in the field. When the new GSLP/Liberal Government was elected into office, an expert was contracted to look into the facility that the previous administration had designed. The expert produced a damning report which concluded that in many respects the facility was not fit for purpose.
“The new Government then had to pick up the pieces that we inherited and proceeded to re‐design and build a proper facility for our Alzheimer and Dementia patients following expert advice and recommendations. It is incredible that the GSD should now complain of the cost when this was a problem that was entirely of their own making. It was a mess that they created.
“The Government wanted to make sure that such patients were housed in surroundings that were adequate and dignified. The GSD’s main concern was simply to squash as many patients as possible into the facility with complete disregard for their living environment and their well‐being.
“It is a disgrace that the elected Opposition cannot even field an elected member to lead on this important issue when they are being paid by the taxpayer to do precisely that job.”
