Jun 09 – Feetham: No Prospect Of GSD Agreeing To Joint Sovereignty Deal
The Leader of the Opposition has said that there is “no prospect” of the GSD agreeing to a joint sovereignty deal in a Brexit situation.
Daniel Feetham said: “Mr Margallo is mistaken if he thinks that the resolve of the people of Gibraltar will weaken whatever the result of the EU referendum. Gibraltar is British and will remain British. In addition, the idea that the UK and Spain can bilaterally negotiate a sovereignty deal over and above our heads is clutching at straws. It will not happen because the people of Gibraltar, its Government and its Opposition will not entertain it. Successive British Governments of all political persuasions have also been crystal clear that they will not enter into any process of negotiations on sovereignty with Spain without the consent of the elected Government of Gibraltar. That consent will never be forthcoming.”
