Nov 02 - GSD Calls On The Government To Explain Public Service Vacancies

The GSD calls on the Government to explain whether it intends to fill the 177.5 vacancies in the public service which it revealed existed in answers to Parliamentary questions from the Leader of the Opposition.

The GSD added that the Government advertised for AA posts just before the summer and nothing appears to have happened. If the Government is considering introducing efficiencies by not filling all these vacancies then it should say so.

In addition the GSD calls on the Government to explain why there is so much long term acting in Senior posts. These include the Director of Social Security, Director of Employment, Commissioner of Income Tax, the SO post at the Civil Status and Registration Department and the Principle Housing Officer.

A spokesman for the GSD said: "The GSLP-Liberals were elected into office in 2011 promising to end long term acting in Senior Posts. Long term acting on this scale smacks of political hypocrisy."
