Jun 05 - Midtown Car Park Developers: Corner Parkings Sold With “No Discount”
The developers of Midtown Coach and Car Park (MCCP) have issued a statement on the allocation of car parking spaces in MCCP. This follows the heated political debate this week over whether the Chief Minister and the Financial Secretary used their positions to secure cheaper large parking spaces. Both have denied doing so and have argued that they paid the set rate.
The developers say they would like to clarify that all corner units on 7 floors were sold at the same price to 38 purchasers with “no discount and based on commercial rates in Gibraltar at that time.”
The statement continued: “During design development several spaces throughout the car park were increased by subsuming the adjacent fallow areas, this is a process we go through in all our developments as it avoids leaving “dead” spaces which can in future raise issues of maintenance. This process must take place once the structural design is complete, in the case of MCCP this process occurred post the reservation of parking spaces, therefore once purchasers had entered into contractual agreements where terms and prices were fixed. Some layouts were particularly affected during the design process as the type of structure changed to a post tension concrete slab, this resulted in pedestrian safety barriers being omitted as they could no longer be fixed to this new floor without compromising the structure. There was no consultation with the purchasers about these changes.”
