Government Says It Will Defeat GSD’s Motion of No Confidence, and Table Amendment “Reflecting Wider Concerns” About the Opposition Leader

The Government says it notes the motion of no confidence presented by the GSD. The Government says it will use its parliamentary majority to defeat this motion in the house.
A statement continued: “The GSD is entitled to bring such a motion, but the public will rightly see this for what it is: political theatre from an Opposition that continues to lack substance or credibility.
“Indeed, the Government will table an amendment to the GSD’s motion to reflect the inverse reality, that is, that this House has no confidence in the Leader of the Opposition. The Honourable Keith Azopardi leads a party that has become increasingly divided and directionless.
“Mr Azopardi's leadership has seen the GSD lurch from one internal crisis to another. He has presided over election defeats, a demoralised party, and a string of ill-conceived public interventions that have left even his own supporters questioning his political judgment.
“The Government will engage in the debate as it always does, with facts, arguments and clarity. And when the vote is taken, it will reflect the confidence this House continues to place in the Chief Minister and the work of this Government. A Government that has delivered for Gibraltar and will continue to do so.”
The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said; ”I am glad to have a debate on my record. I am happy to consider everything I have done for Gibraltar and what my Government and ministers have done for Gibraltar and compare that to the record of those sitting opposite us. I am really looking forward to the debate and thank the Leader of the Opposition for the opportunity to engage in it."
