Mar 15 - Government Insists Opposition Will Not Accept Truth on Presidential Dinner
Responding to the Opposition’s recent statement, insisting the Government reveal who invited Mr. Picardo and Dr. Cortes to President Obama’s Candlelight Dinner in Washington, the Government has stated that the invitation arose from relationships with members of the US Democratic party, which were established as a result of the "Thinking Green" conference.
They insist that the Government did not make any donations or other fundraising contributions to the Obama administration, in order to obtain an invite. The Government does not consider that it is in the public interest of Gibraltar to disclose the identity of those inviting Mr. Picardo and Dr. Cortes to the events in question, as to do so will provide a route map for those who wish to sabotage Gibraltar's presence at such events and our marketing campaign in general. If such individuals have made any contributions, payments, donations or other fundraising contributions to the Obama campaign it is a matter entirely for them and with which the Government has not been involved.
They insist that they have been entirely transparent on the costs of the event, however, the Opposition ‘do not appear to want to accent the truth’.
