May 15 - Parliament Sits for First Time Since Refurbishment
This afternoon members of Parliament sat for the first time in two months, following an extensive refurbishment to the Chamber. The work done includes the seating and storage arrangements for the clerk of the house, as well as the modernisation of the premises. Cameras and a digital recording system have also been installed, meaning that in future parliament sessions may be televised and live streamed over the internet, once rules and regulations are finalised. During the session, the Chief Minister thanked GJBS as well as Carl Viagas for their work on the chamber.
He added that minor works still had to be completed including the implementation of another set of cameras. Opposition leader Daniel Feetham also thanked GJBS and sub contractors. As standing father of the house, in Joe Bossano’s absence, Peter Carauna commended the Government for making this project a priority. He asked whether the new shield, hung behind the Speaker’s chair, would remain or whether the former one would be restored. The Chief Minister noted that the shield was not what they’d expected and restoration of the former one would be carried out.
