Oct 27 - Govt Response on Financial Secretary Appointment 'Inadequate' - Claims GSD
The Opposition has responded to the Government’s latest statement about the reasoning for their choice of new Financial Secretary, who is a ‘friend and partner’ of Opposition leader Daniel Feetham.
Feetham has said that this response by the government is ‘inadequate’ and is ‘simply not serious politics to suggest that the Government is doing the Leader of the Opposition a favour by appointing his "friend and partner”’.
A GSD statement adds that the Government’s claims do not address the substance of the party’s concerns which is that absolute impartiality by the holder should be by the Financial Secretary, with a great deal of openness and transparency in the process of appointing an individual to the position.
The Opposition is adamant that ‘the Chief Minister has chosen in these circumstances to appoint someone with whom he has a very close relationship and someone who is not a career Civil Servant to bring the kind impartiality this role needs and demands
