Sep 23 - Snagging At Sand Dune House Begins On 5th October
The construction of affordable homes in Sand Dune House, one of the two blocks at Beach View Terraces, is now complete. Purchasers can expect a letter within the next few days with further information and details of their snagging appointment, the first of which will take place on the 5th October 2015.
The Chief Minister and Minister Sacramento, accompanied by John Collado of Land Property Services and Geraldine Reading from the Housing Department, visited Sand Dune House today to inspect the finished works. The Government says it is extremely pleased with the quality that the affordable homes have been finished to in this pre-snagging stage, and is confident that new homeowners will find them to be excellent value for money.
Works to Seashell House and communal areas are progressing quickly and these are expected to be completed by the end of October, at which point purchasers of Seashell House will also receive their snagging appointments.
Minister for Housing, Samantha Sacramento, said: “These affordable homes will have gone from concept to completion in a record time of two years, and I’m delighted with the standard to which this is being achieved. The sale of these affordable homes has also had a beneficial impact on reducing the housing waiting list. This is real evidence that this Government has made affordable housing for Gibraltar’s people our top priority and, as with other projects delivered by this administration, represents a real investment in people.”
The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, said: “After inspecting Sand Dune House for myself I am extremely pleased with the quality that the homes have been finished to at this stage. We are delivering on our manifesto commitments as promised. As our co-ordinated policies take shape the waiting list for Government rented homes will be alleviated, 1,700 more affordable homes will be made available at Bob Peliza Mews and Hassan Centenary Terraces, and there will be accommodation for the elderly at Mons Calpe Mews and Charles Bruzon House. Add to this the newly opened University and the fast-developing Health Campus at the Old Royal Naval Hospital and what you see is a well-thought out, joined-up approach to providing the best possible opportunities and quality of life for all sections of the community, the young and old alike. This is exactly what Gibraltar deserves and exactly what we will deliver.”
