Oct 30 - Childline Gibraltar To Host Anti-Bullying Awareness Events

Childline Gibraltar will be hosting various events to mark Anti-Bullying Awareness Month during November.

After witnessing bullying behaviour and conducting research on the topic, 13-year old local schoolgirl Amy Azzopardi contacted Childline's Edducation Team as she decided to ‘do something to make people aware how serious bullying can get’.

Amy, and her friend Emma Fava, have worked with the team to develop a poster competition for school years 7-9 on the theme of "Let's make a noise about Bullying". Supported by the Department for Education, the competition has attracted many entries from young people in Gibraltar which will all be displayed during an exhibition at the John Mackintosh Hall between Tuesday 17th and Friday 20th November.

The overall competition winner is Bryony Rutherford from Year 7 in Bishop Fitzgerald school, who will be presented with her prize by the Chief Minister at a special presentation ceremony on 18th November. Winners from each age category will also receive a small prize.

Not content with just the poster competition, Amy has also organised a Cake Stall which will take place on Wednesday 4th November, between 10.00am and 2.00pm in the Piazza. The stall will raise funds for Childline as well as awareness about Bullying.

Over the last month, the Education Team has been delivering awareness sessions, alongside young people, in schools, youth clubs and young people's associations such as the Girl Guides and the Scouts.
