Nov 19 - Miss Gibraltar Hannah Bado Launches #CrownTheRockAgain Campaign

Miss Gibraltar Hannah Bado needs the Rock's support as she leaves for Sanya in China today, to take part and represent Gibraltar in the Miss World 2015 pageant.

All you have to do to show your support for Hannah's social media campaign is to share this story with the hashtag #CrownTheRockAgain - with the aim of bringing the title home once again since Kaiane Aldorino was crowned Miss World in 2009.

Hannah said: "In just over a week, I shall be joining over one hundred beautiful and intelligent contestants from all over the world in the Miss World 2015 pageant. This year, the host city will be Sanya; the southernmost city on Hainan Island known for its tropical climate, exotic landscapes, preserved beaches and tourist attraction sites. One of its main tourist attraction sites is the Guanyin of the South Sea of Sanya; a Buddhist statue of mercy reaching a height of 108 metres, making it one of the tallest statues in the world.

"This year, the pageant will be based in the magnificent Beauty Crown Sanya China Hotel, a complex resort with a record number of 6,668 hotel rooms. Constructed by some of the world’s most leading architects, the nine buildings within the resort have been built to resemble tall green trees bearing fruit from long branches. From a distance, the nine ‘trees’ give the impression of being made out of Lego bricks, with many people calling the Beauty Crown Sanya China Resort,  China’s ‘Lego Hotel.’

"Recently, I have started my ‘#CrownTheRockAgain’ campaign which has stemmed from Miss Gibraltar 2009, Kaiane Aldorino, winning the Miss World title in 2009 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This campaign focuses on gaining Gibraltar’s support ahead of Miss World 2015. Kaiane Aldorino has proven to become a role model for women in Gibraltar who wish to compete in our national Miss Gibraltar pageant and represent our nation in international pageants around the world. I believe that although Gibraltar is a small place, the prospect of our homeland having another Miss World is possible and I hope to strive towards this.

"My passion for charities began at the young age of 16 when I enrolled into a three year charitable program called ‘Future Leaders in Philanthropy’ (FLIP). Over the course of these three years, I contributed to a range of local charities, as well as raising £2,000 in the final year of the project for a residential facility for adults and children with disabilities in Tangier, Morocco, called the ‘Cheshire Home Support Group.’ However, my recent passion for helping out local charities targeting cancer stemmed from my mother, together with another loved one, who were both diagnosed with cancer in 2013. This has been the driving force behind everything I do. In the future, I hope to continue pursuing my involvement in local charities, particularly those of which target cancer and children due to being a Primary School Teacher.

"The Miss World 2015 final will be taking place on the 19th of December in the Beauty Crown Grand Theatre which was first created in 2003 to host Sanya’s first ever Miss World final. Since then, it has hosted four more Miss World Pageants; one of which our Miss World Gibraltar 2009, Kaiane Aldorino, crowned her successor Alexandria Mills in 2010.

"Being the proud Gibraltarian that I am, I hope to educate people in Miss World about our background and culture. I really hope to make Gibraltar proud in the Miss World 2015 pageant. This was a promise I made to my fellow Gibraltarians when I was crowned Miss Gibraltar 2015, especially as I carry the hopes and dreams of my country to repeat pageant history in Gibraltar."
