Feb 22 – Runway Resurfacing Now Complete
22 February 2016
Seventy-four thousand man-hours and six months later, the runway resurfacing project is over. With most of the work taking placing in the evenings and through the night to minimise disruption to traffic and flights, the new surface is set to last 25 years.
Speaking at an official ceremony at RAF Gibraltar on Friday afternoon, the Commander of British Forces, Commodore Ian McGhie, said that it was a project that had been delivered “two weeks early and to budget”.
Jack Noble, Director at Ramboll and Project Manager for the works, told YGTV that is was a challenging task in many respects: “For this project, we had to import both the raw materials and the equipment. We also had to ensure that there was no disruption to the use of the runway.”
