Apr 08 - Manar Will Take On Her Med Steps Challenge Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning, Manar Ben Tahayekt will be undertaking her biggest challenge to date – climbing up the Med Steps for the first time.

Manar, who lives with Cerebral Palsy, set herself the challenge of going up the Med Steps as it was something she felt she was missing out on, as she had previously told Your Gibraltar TV in an interview.

With the help from family and friends, 22-year-old Manar has been training for the challenge, and with with less than a day left until she takes on the Med Steps, YGTV caught up with Manar to ask how she feels about her big day.

There isn't much time left for your Med Steps Challenge. Are you better prepared for it now?

To be honest, I feel physically prepared for and although I've been trying to mentally prepare myself I still feel fear and nerves, which is normal I guess. I want to do so well but at the same time, fear is haunting me.  I am sure I will do well maybe it is just paranoia which is making me think like this.  I have been focused during my training and I’ve been training enough so I'd like to say that I am 100% prepared however I don’t want to jinx it!

Have you reached the top during your training?

I haven't actually been up Med Steps yet, my first time will be on Challenge Day.

At first, training was a nightmare as I mentioned during my last interview, I was not that focused especially in the summer time.  But, I then realised I wanted it so badly. This time last year, I would not have imagined the determination I have just to reach the top.

What are you looking forward to the most about the Med Steps Challenge?

I am definitely looking forward to that feeling you get when you feel like you are on the top of the world because you have achieved something that people doubted you could do.

Do you think you'll continue to climb up the Med Steps once you're done with the challenge?

YES!  I mean, I am already planning a few activities with my friends after the challenge, I am sure that will be fun!

What has the reaction from friends and family been towards the challenge so far?

Everyone has been very supportive!  It means a lot to me that they are believing in me and wanting me to achieve this challenge I decided to do.

Through hard times, they have been pushing and encouraging me to never give up!

I would like to take this moment to thank not just my family and friends, but also the community itself, from those who came to train with me to those who stop me in town to wish me luck.

I really appreciate your words of encouragement, I hope to still continue fighting to create more awareness! Thank you everyone!
