Apr 12 - Winners For 2016 Spring Festival Logo Competition Announced
The winner for this year's Spring Festival Logo competition was announced today, and the prize winning logo was designed by software developer Stuart Barea.
Stuart received a cheque for £300 from Minister for Culture Steven Linares as well as a trophy, and seven schoolchildren were given runners up prizes for their highly commended logos.
The logo competition was organised by the Gibraltar Cultural Services, and a total of 124 logo entries were submitted for the competition, with the winner being announced at the John Mackintosh Hall this afternoon. The programme of events for this year's Spring Festival were also announced, starting with the May Day celebrations featuring Ben Haenow, and other events including a Maxi Priest concert to celebrate his birthday in St Michael's Cave, the Miss Gibraltar beauty pageant and ending with 'Calentita'.
The highly commended logos belonged to Maddy Hill of Loreto Convent, Shelli Abudarham from the Hebrew Primary School, David Tapiero from Gibraltar Boys' Secondary School, David Benady from Gibraltar Boys' Secondary School, Adina Malka Spier from Gibraltar Girls' High School, Sofia Diez Homatyano from St Bernard's Middle School and Ryan Clinton from St Joseph's Middle School.
Mr Linares presented the awards and commenting on the launch of the 2016 Spring Festival, said: "It gives me a great pleasure to present the full and varied programme of events that comprise this year’s Gibraltar Spring Festival.
"Most of these events have been organised by or on behalf of the Ministry for Culture, whereas others were planned privately and have chosen to come under the Spring Festival umbrella. Regardless of the method of inception and production, they all share one common purpose in promoting the arts and culture within our community.
"By forming part of the Spring Festival these entities ensure that for over seven weeks commencing on the Sunday 1st May with the ‘May Day Celebrations’ and ending on the Saturday 18th June with ‘Calentita’, visitors to the Rock and locals alike, can enjoy an intense period of cultural and other related activities. I wish you all a most enjoyable and entertaining Spring Festival."
