Jul 13 - CBF Awards Ceremony

Personnel at HM Naval Base recently attended an award ceremony that recognised the achievements of two locally employed Ministry of Defence civilians, an employee of a local organisation that has loyally served the MOD in Gibraltar and a Royal Navy Officer. The awards were presented by Commander British Forces Gibraltar, Commodore Ian McGhie Royal Navy, who recently announced his retirement.

Ms Moya has worked in a variety of roles throughout British Forces Gibraltar for over 21 years and tackled them all with the same level of determination and resolve. Her current role as the Command Compliance Manager provides her with the ideal opportunity to do what she does best: take responsibility for issues, investigate anomalies and deliver solutions.

“Her meticulous attention to detail and industrious attitude has resulted in a number of notable achievements this year”.

Ms Moya was commended for her determination to achieve value for money for the MOD. She is also commended for her courageous, enthusiastic and diligent delivery of improved working practices and processes in support of British Forces Gibraltar.

Mr Nicholas Barbara, acting as the Specialist Vehicle Section Manager at RAF Gibraltar, has led an expert team of skilled engineering tradesmen through a very difficult and demanding period of change, whilst ensuring that there was no impact on the day-to-day mission critical operations at RAF Gibraltar.

“Mr Barbara has selflessly devoted himself to improving the standards of the Section to meet the very strict regulatory requirements of the MAA, by changing work practices, altering procedures and instilling a ‘can do safely’ approach.”

His diligence and resourcefulness in repairing ATLAS loading vehicles and FOD sweepers out of hours has ensured aircraft operations from Gibraltar have been unhindered. Without any formal training or financial recognition he has shown immense leadership and has earned the respect of his peers and chain of command

Ms Mandy Gaggero has been employed with MH Bland Ltd for 10 years as the Marketing Manager. Since 2005 she has worked tirelessly to assist British Forces Gibraltar; not only assisting both military and civilian personnel based on the Rock but also those visiting from outside the Command.

“With a knack for turning problems into opportunities and solving solutions, her contributions have been extremely valuable and have encapsulated a positive sense of military and civilian cooperation. “

A Member of the Board of the Gibraltar Police Authority and Member of the Holy Order of The Knights of Malta, Ms Gaggero continues to take great pride in working not only with local business but also integrating the MOD community into Gibraltarian life.

Lieutenant Alan Darlington, a Gibraltarian and serving member of the Royal Navy, is at the end of his three year assignment in Gibraltar. During his time here he has maintained the delicate balance between conflicting operational demands. He has proactively maintained excellent relationships with military and civilian agencies in the both the UK and Gibraltar and has continued to improve and maintain the operational output of his team. His initiatives to integrate new equipment and manage infrastructure and personnel changes during his tenure are indicative of his committed approach.

“For his direct contribution to operations and the effective guidance of his team, he was thoroughly deserving of his recent selection for promotion and extension of service.”
