Oct 25 - YGTV Catches Up With Davinia Cano Who Won The Mrs Europe 2nd Princess Title

Mrs Gibraltar’s 2nd Princess Davinia Cano returned to Gibraltar with the title of Mrs Europe’s 2nd Princess after representing the Rock in Russia.

The 29-year-old singer caught up with YGTV after her time in Sochi after what she calls “a life-changing experience”.

How was your Mrs Europe experience?

The experience was absolutely amazing. When I went to Russia, the first few days were a bit difficult because we had a problem with the visa and every thing which we didn’t expect.

Once we got over that bumpy ride, it was absolutely beautiful and the scenery in Sochi was absolutely breathtaking.

We stayed at a hotel at the port, and from the beach you could look up and see mountains covered with ice in the distance.

How was it meeting the other contestants?

I was a bit worried at first, because you hear so many things about how competitive it might be and some girls keep to themselves, so I didn’t know what to expect.

Once I was there, I realised everyone was so nice and so helpful, and even though there was a language barrier, we all helped each other out.

How was the pageant itself?

It was very stressful and a lot of work, you are constantly being watched, so it was quite nerve wracking.

But you have a lot of fun once you start doing the events, and you’re spending time with the girls and going out, you don’t think about that anymore, you’re focused on what you’re doing on the day.

There are a lot of cameras and press at all times, but you get used to it.

As we were supporting domestic violence charities, we got to visit a children’s home and spent time doing something good for the community.

How did you feel on the actual night?

I was a bit nervous, because funny thing, I’d lost a lot of weight while I was there and my dress didn’t fit.

I had to call my director Angel, and he calmed me down, and I managed to speak to someone who managed to take it in for me slightly with a needle and thread.

It was the beige dress Kimberley Bautista made for me, and it was absolutely beautiful and I panicked because it was literally falling off me.

I was so nervous, but I made it, and although I was worried I’d flash everyone on the beach, it all went smoothly I was just happy and appreciating that I was there in such a nice place.

How well did Mrs Gibraltar prepare you for Mrs Europe?

The team helped me from the very beginning, but while I was searching online, when I saw their purpose and their support for the domestic violence charities that I decided to join them.

The charity work is very important and they stress that, and it’s about women with a purpose and this is something that we take very seriously.

They’ve been amazing with me from the beginning and they’ve been there for all of us. They got me through the competition here in Gibraltar and to Russia and I am very grateful.

How did you feel when you were crowned Mrs Europe’s 2nd Princess?

When I first got there and met the others, I thought the competition was very high. We were only 19 girls there, but when they passed through to the top 3 I thought there was no way I’d be selected.

When they called me forward, I was shaking and in so much shock, but I took the chance to thank the judges and I am very proud to have brought home the title of Mrs Europe’s 2nd Princess.

I was also given the Star award in the talent round.

What message did you take across to Russia about Gibraltar and the people of Gibraltar?

I had to do a presentation on Gibraltar while dressed in my national costume, and one of the things I said was that Gibraltar represented strength and freedom, and I think that really touched people, and that you have to fight for what you love, especially like we’ve done here in Gibraltar where we’ve always fought for who we are and we’ve gone very far.

I also learnt about different cultures from everyone.

What does it mean now that you have this title?

I hope it’s the same meaning as having the Mrs Gibraltar’s 2nd Princess title, which is to carry on working and focusing on charity work, and I just hope I keep on doing that and maybe even do this abroad with my title.

I’d like to also send a message to young girls or future participants in Mrs Gibraltar, that at the end of the day what’s most important is to be a good person, or try to be a good person, and to find a way in your life to give to others.
