Poppy Day Appeal 2024

This year the Appeal will take place on Friday 8th November with collections points spread out in various locations manned by Legion members and serving Forces personnel.
A statement from the Royal British Legion Gibraltar Branch follows below:
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance. Poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community.
This year the Appeal will take place on Friday 08 November with collections points spread out in various locations manned by Legion members and serving Forces personnel.
Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We unite across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
This year marks the 80th anniversaries of the D-Day landings of 6th June – the largest seaborne invasion in history – marked the beginning of the liberation of western Europe. Elsewhere on the globe exceptionally hard-fought battles were also turning the tide of the war. The Battle of Monte Cassino was the bloodiest of the Italian Campaign and in Burma outnumbered British and Indian forces withstood weeks of siege and brutal fighting.
The Chairman of the Gibraltar Branch, Lt Col (Rtd) Francis Brancato OBE JP says “let us reflect on the bravery of all those involved in these momentous battles and turning points of the Second World War – at which Gibraltarians were present – and honour their sacrifice and resilience”
The Legion is therefore once again calling on the local community to show theirappreciation for the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in safeguarding our freedoms and values.
Those wishing to take part in the Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday 10November, are requested to muster at Kings Street at 1120hrs. Dress regimental beret, tie, blazer and medals. March on will be at 1140hrs.
