Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers to Participate in World Surfcasting Championships

The Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers will be participating in the World Surfcasting Championships.

A statement continued:

“The Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers (GFSA) regularly participates in international fishing competitions (boat and shore competitions) and always punches above its weight in this sport bringing home many individual and team trophies.

“GFSA will, once again, be participating at the World Surfcasting Championships to be held in Portugal in the Autumn of 2025. Are you interested in being part of the team that will be representing Gibraltar at these championships?

“If you are then please register your interest, before the 15th January 2025, for team selection. Please note, you must be a fully paid-up member of the Federation and hold a valid Gibraltar Fishing License, to qualify. If you have a valid membership and hold a local fishing license, then please contact the Federation to put your name forward for team selection using the contact details given below.

“If more than 6 anglers put their names forward for selection, then GFSA will hold qualifying rounds at Eastern Beach to choose the 6 members of the team that will represent Gibraltar.

“This competition will take place October/November 2025. The exact dates and the venue in Portugal are yet to be confirmed. But GFSA needs to start planning the qualifiers now as fishing from the shore at Eastern Beach is not allowed after April 2025 and doesn’t restart again until October 2025. This means that the qualifying rounds need take place before the local beach fishing season closes in April 2025.

“It should be noted that whilst the Government supports GFSA with a grant for these competitions, but the funds do not cover all the costs involved, and each angler will need to cover those expenses that are not subsidised by the grant or otherwise sponsored.”
