International Transgender Day Of Visibility

31 March 2025
International Transgender Day Of Visibility

Today, the Ministry of Equality marks the International Transgender Day of Visibility.

A statement from the Government follows below:

This is an  annual event which celebrates the transgender community and raises awareness of the issues faced  by transgender individuals.

The International Transgender Day of Visibility is also an opportunity to promote understanding  and acceptance.

The Ministry of Equality published a Draft Bill in November 2024 which seeks to amend the Crimes  Act 2011 in order to provide greater protections to transgender individuals. These legislative  changes would also ensure that those committing crimes which are based on hatred towards  members of the transgender community are punished more severely, as they are when offences are  committed based on hatred for other protected groups. The Bill would also extend what are known  as “stirring-up hatred” offences to include stirring up hatred on the grounds of transgender identity.

The Ministry of Equality would like to remind the public of the Gibraltar Health Authority’s Adult  Gender Service for any person affected by gender dysphoria. Anyone in need of the service should  consult with their GP and ask to be referred for further information. The Ministry of Equality  continues to work with the Adult Gender Services in order to raise further awareness on  Transgender issues and highlight services available.
