Launch of ‘Tale of Two Cities’ Art Exhibition in Tangier

The launch of the art exhibition ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ as part of the Gibraltar Tangier exchange saw a positive response and reception. The event, organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services and JM Memorial Foundation on behalf of the Ministry for Culture, was officially opened by the Minister for Culture and Tourism, Christian Santos, in a video presentation at Gallery Kent.
A statement continued: “A vibrant celebration of artistic talent marked the launch of the exhibition, which features the works of seven local artists, the majority of whom travelled to Tangier for the event. Works by Aaron Soleci, Ambrose Avellano, Jane Langdon, Karl Ullger, Leslie Gaduzo, Mark Montovio, and Monica Popham impressed at the launch. Paintings and sculptures are on show with Langdon’s fashion creations, which were modelled on the night, a highlight of the occasion too.
“The event is a continuation of the recent work being done with Tangier and beyond, aimed at deepening cultural ties between Gibraltar and Morocco, providing a valuable platform for promotion and cross-border networking. The exhibition highlights a rich variety of contemporary artistic expressions, reflecting the unique voices and creative visions of the artists. Together, the collection contributes meaningfully to the ongoing artistic dialogue between these two culturally vibrant cities.
“Aziza Laraki of Gallery Kent presented an artwork donated by Tetouan artist Atelier Jaamati to GCS, for the Ministry of Culture, as symbol of the good relationship that exists and the continued work being done within the artistic and cultural arena.
"Guests included Princess Lalla Malika of Morocco, as well as other dignitaries from the business, tourism and artistic communities, with a large presence from the Moroccan media. The occasion also attracted Gibraltarians who were in Tangier on business and charitable endeavours, with artists’ family members also enjoying the launch.”
Minister Santos said: “This exchange with Morocco is a perfect platform for our local artists to showcase their talent and make valuable contacts. As Minister for Culture this is exactly the type of opportunity I want to ensure our creatives have access to. My thanks to Gibraltar Cultural Services, the JM Memorial Foundation and Gallery Kent for organising and facilitating this event.”
The Organisers invite Gibraltarians who may be in Tangier from the 11th April to 10th May to visit Gallery Kent and support our local artists.
