Garcia In Washington For Political Meetings

The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia is in Washington for a number of political engagements.
A statement from the Government follows below:
Dr Garcia has been meeting with Members of Congress from both the Republican and the Democrat parties. He has also met with members of different influential policy think-tanks.
In a tight schedule of some twenty meetings in two and a half days, the Deputy Chief Minister has put forward the Gibraltar point of view to decision makers in the US capitol. This has covered the latest developments in relation to the conclusion of a UK-EU treaty to govern our future relationship with the European Union, the right to self-determination of the people of Gibraltar and the importance of its strategic location in the face of a more turbulent world.
It will be recalled that in August 2023 a group of Congressmen from the House Appropriations Committee on Defence came to Gibraltar as part of an official CODEL visit. The visitors flew direct from the United States and then continued onto Germany after better understanding Gibraltar.
The Deputy Chief Minister explained that all this was part of the long-standing policy of the Government to raise the profile of Gibraltar among bi-partisan political circles in the United States of America.
