HMGoG and GBA Strengthen Partnership to Boost Summer Career Placements for Local Youth

The Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry, Nigel Feetham, recently met with representatives of the Gibraltar Bankers Association (GBA) to reaffirm the ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and providing students with valuable, hands-on experience in the financial services sector. A key focus of discussion was the summer career placement program for young people within Gibraltar’s banking industry.
This year HM Government of Gibraltar is pleased to note that member banks of the GBA are offering a significant number of summer placement opportunities, and this year's application numbers have substantially surpassed those of previous years.
This initiative aims to foster the next generation of finance professionals in Gibraltar. The notable increase in interest in the student placements and number of positions available reflects the banking sector’s dedication to engaging and investing in local young talent, further underscoring its commitment to community development.
Minister Feetham commented: “We are proud to see the banking sector’s continued support in providing meaningful career opportunities to our young people. These placements not only equip students with essential practical skills but also contribute to strengthening Gibraltar’s financial services industry for the future. The ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and the GBA remains a cornerstone of our strategy to promote youth employment and professional development locally.”
Spokesperson for the Gibraltar Bankers Association, Amy Ballantine Latin, added: “At the GBA, one of our key strategic goals is to educate and raise awareness of the varied career opportunities that banking offers. We are fully committed to investing in young talent and believe this to be investing in Gibraltar’s future. Our Members’ summer placements are more than just work experience, they are an invitation for students to step inside one of Gibraltar’s most dynamic sectors, gain confidence, and envision a meaningful and dynamic career path.”
This partnership continues to open doors for Gibraltar’s youth and reinforces the vital role the banking sector plays as a key driver of local professional growth, particularly for our younger generation.
In parallel, and working closely with the wider financial services and gaming sectors, Gibraltar Finance continues its campaign to demystify these sectors, highlighting the variety of career paths available and the success stories of local professionals. This collaborative approach reflects a shared vision to increasing local engagement and fostering long-term career development within Gibraltar’s key economic sectors.
