Government Hell-bent On Trashing The Principal Auditor Says GSD

The GSD has issued a statement in reply to the Governments comments regarding the former Principal Auditor.

A statement from the GSD follows below:

It is very clear that the Government is hell-bent on the approach it has embarked upon of seeking to trash the reputation of the Principal Auditor.

In its latest statement the Government questions, in effect, the Principal Auditor’s impartiality by insinuating that there has been collusion between the GSD and him on the basis that the way the Auditor has approached the issue “closely mirrors political lines raised by Opposition MP Damon Bossino”.

The fact is that there has been absolutely no contact, collusion or any communication between the GSD and the Auditor on this or any other issue as it may affect his conclusions in the Report.

The fact is that the criticisms raised by the GSD at the time of the announcement raised issues of concern about the close political connections between persons with interests in the company and the GSLP - an issue which did not trouble the Minister for the Environment as he could not, quite remarkably, see that there was any conflict of interest.

Damon Bossino said: “The fact is that the Government, instead of accepting the findings in the Report is, in a state of obvious pique, doing everything it can to turn the tables on a man who only recently they were praising for “dedicated and professional service to Gibraltar”.

This sadly is what happens when, in a Gibraltar run by the GSLP, you question the Government.
